How To Take Of Your Newspaper Collection

If you have a newspaper collection that you don't have space for in your home anymore and you need to move it into a storage unit, you need to carefully prepare your newspapers for storage.  

Get a Climate-Controlled Storage Unit

The first thing you need to do is rent a climate-controlled storage unit. When you are storing fragile items, such as a newspaper collection, you need to protect it with a climate-controlled storage unit. A climate-controlled storage unit is the closest you will come to recreating the conditions inside of a home.  

Store the Papers Flat

You are going to need to take some time preparing the papers. You are going to want to take the papers and make sure that they are not rolled up. You want the papers to lay flat while they are in storage in order to ensure that they stay in good shape. You are going to want to place the papers flat inside of the box.  

Use Acid-Free Folders

Next, you are going to want to use acid-free folders for your newspaper. You are going to want to wrap each newspaper inside an acid-free folder. Then, take acid-free tissue paper and put it in between the different pages of the paper. This is what you need to do in order to preserve the paper and keep it in as good a condition as possible.  

You are going to want to use acid-free storage boxes as well. This will help keep the papers in good shape throughout the storage process.  

Be Careful About Where You Place the Boxes

Finally, be careful about where you place the boxes in your storage unit. You don't want to put the boxes on the ground, where moisture could damage them. Put metal storage shelves in your storage unit and place the acid-free boxes on each shelf in order to keep everything safe. Do not stack the boxes on top of each other; put the boxes on their own shelves in order to keep the pressure off them. Take careful care of the boxes in order to take careful care of the newspapers.  

When it comes to taking care of your old newspaper collection, you need to get a climate-controlled storage unit. You should store the papers flat and use acid-free folders to divide the different papers from one another. Be careful about where you place the boxes; keep them off the floor to keep the papers safe.
